During the production of the 2014 war movie “Fury,” Scott Eastwood and Shia LaBeouf found themselves in a tense and “volatile” situation.
Eastwood recently revealed to Insider that a miscommunication about a scene led to an altercation between him and LaBeouf, requiring Brad Pitt to step in and defuse the situation.
The incident arose when Eastwood had to spit on a war tank as part of the script, which LaBeouf was unaware of and took offense to.
Describing the confrontation, Eastwood shared, “[LaBeouf] got mad at me and it turned into a volatile moment that Brad Pitt ultimately got in the middle of.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive atmosphere on set, stating that an actor's process should never compromise how others are treated during filming.
According to Eastwood, the focus should be on enhancing the production rather than creating a negative or uncomfortable work environment.
Reflecting on the incident, Eastwood stressed the need for perspective in acting, highlighting the balance between the seriousness of the work and the enjoyment it brings.
He emphasized the importance of providing a conducive space for emotional performances while maintaining professionalism and respect for all involved.
In a separate account provided to British GQ in 2014, Pitt recounted the specific details of the altercation on set.
During a scene where a tank was in motion with Pitt and LaBeouf inside its turrets, Eastwood, who had chewing tobacco, spat it out onto the tank.
This action prompted Pitt to address Eastwood, instructing him to clean up the mess, which triggered a reaction from LaBeouf who perceived it as disrespect towards their working environment.
The clash on the set of “Fury” was not the only instance where LaBeouf's behavior raised concerns among his colleagues.
Years later, during the pre-production of Olivia Wilde's film “Don't Worry Darling,” LaBeouf's conduct led to his removal from the project.
Reports from Variety in December 2020 indicated that LaBeouf exhibited disruptive behavior and clashed with the cast and crew, prompting the decision to part ways with the actor.
As questions arise regarding LaBeouf's on-set demeanor, Variety has sought comments from his representatives to provide further insights into the incidents mentioned.
The actor's past experiences serve as a reminder of the importance of professionalism and mutual respect in the demanding environment of filmmaking, where collaboration and positive interactions are essential for a successful production.
