A judge has ruled that Sasha Mitchell, known for his role in the TV series “Step By Step,” must return to Ventura County Jail for 60 days due to probation violations and ongoing violence against his spouse.
The actor, also a kickboxer, will commence his two-month sentence immediately, with the possibility of a reduction to 45 days for good conduct, according to a prosecutor.
Following his conviction in September for assaulting his wife, Mitchell was placed on three years’ probation, mandated to engage in community service, and attend counseling sessions for individuals who abuse their partners.
In January, he spent a month behind bars for non-compliance but was permitted to leave during daytime hours for work commitments.
However, this time around, Mitchell will not enjoy such leniency as his lawyer mentioned that the television show’s current season production had concluded.
During the recent court session, Judge Bruce Clark criticized the actor for missing numerous counseling sessions and for multiple instances of violence towards his wife, who attended court alongside their 4-month-old child to offer support.
Deputy District Attorney Adam Pearlman outlined various incidents post-March 1 where Mitchell allegedly breached the terms of his probation.
Pearlman described an occurrence where Mitchell purportedly struck his wife multiple times with a couch pillow while she shielded their infant son.
Additionally, Mitchell reportedly insulted his wife and spat on her after another dispute and later damaged property by throwing a chair and a guitar through a window.
Mitchell’s attorney, Howard Lowe, acknowledged his client’s actions but emphasized a distinction between the recent altercations and the severity of his previous domestic abuse arrest in April 1995.
Lowe noted that although Mitchell displayed anger, it was not as extreme as before, indicating progress despite the unacceptable behavior.
While admitting to skipping several mandatory classes, Lowe highlighted Mitchell’s improved attendance record and completion of assignments as signs of dedication to change.
The couple, as per Lowe, remains devoted to salvaging their marriage, portraying a shared commitment to working through their challenges.
