A recent lawsuit has been brought against former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson by a woman who claims he s–ually assaulted her in the early 1990s.
The woman alleges that she met Tyson at a nightclub in Albany, New York, and that he raped her in a limousine.
This legal action falls under New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which allows victims of s–ual assault a one-year timeframe to file lawsuits regarding incidents that occurred many years ago.
Seeking $5 million in damages, the woman asserts that the assault has had lasting effects on her physical, psychological, and emotional well-being since the incident took place.
Although the exact date of the alleged attack is unspecified in the woman’s affidavit, she recounts that it transpired during the early 1990s.
It remains unclear whether she pursued any legal action following the assault when it originally occurred.
Neither Mike Tyson nor his representatives have publicly addressed the accusation or issued any statements regarding the lawsuit.
Requests for comment made by The Associated Press to Tyson through a representative agency have not been responded to at this time.
The woman, who wishes to remain unidentified for her own protection and to avoid further mental anguish and harassment, detailed in her affidavit that Tyson made unwelcome advances towards her in the limousine, despite her repeated objections and pleas for him to stop.
According to the woman, Tyson ignored her refusals and proceeded to remove her clothing before s–ually assaulting her.
Her legal counsel, Darren Seilback, has affirmed the credibility of her claims after conducting an investigation into the matter but refrained from providing additional comments on the ongoing case.
Mike Tyson, now 56, was previously found guilty of raping beauty pageant contestant Desiree Washington on February 10, 1992, resulting in a three-year prison sentence.
His ex-wife, actress Robin Givens, also documented instances of violent behavior and outbursts during their marriage in the late 1980s.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Tyson reigned as the undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion from 198
