A recent lawsuit has been filed by a woman accusing former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson of s–ually assaulting her in the early 1990s, following their encounter at a nightclub in Albany, New York.
The woman, who is seeking $5 million in damages, claims that Tyson assaulted her in a limousine and asserts that she has endured enduring physical, psychological, and emotional trauma ever since.
While the exact date of the incident is unspecified in the woman’s affidavit, it occurred during the early 1990s, coinciding with the time when beauty pageant participant Desiree Washington accused Tyson of rape in Indianapolis.
Tyson was found guilty of raping Washington on February 10, 1992, leading to a three-year prison sentence.
This legal action in New York falls under the state’s Adult Survivors Act, which permits survivors of s–ual assault to file lawsuits within a one-year timeframe for assaults that transpired years or even decades ago.
According to the woman’s statement, she entered Tyson’s limousine where he immediately initiated unwanted physical contact and attempted to kiss her.
Despite her repeated refusals and pleas for him to stop, the woman alleges that Tyson persisted and proceeded to s–ually assault her forcefully after removing her pants.
The lawsuit was initially disclosed by the Times Union of Albany, and the woman wishes to remain anonymous to safeguard herself from potential mental distress, harassment, ridicule, or personal humiliation.
Her legal representative, Darren Seilback, mentioned in a separate document that thorough investigations were conducted into the woman’s claims, affirming their credibility.
Seilback declined to provide further insights into the case when approached for comment on Tuesday.
Efforts to obtain a response from Tyson were directed to his representative agency.
Born in Brooklyn, Tyson, now 56, gained widespread acclaim as the undisputed world heavyweight champion from 1987 to 1990; however, his personal life away from boxing has been marked by turmoil.
During his divorce from actress Robin Givens in the late 1980s, Givens alleged in court documents that their marriage was marred by Tyson’s unprovoked outbursts of violence and destructive behavior.
