In a rare interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” renowned director Woody Allen addressed the allegation made by his daughter Dylan Farrow that he s**ually assaulted her when she was just 7 years old.
Allen expressed his belief that his now-estranged 35-year-old daughter genuinely believes the accusation.
He stated, “She was a good kid and I believe she thinks it.
I do not believe that she's making it up.
I don't believe she's lying.
I believe she believes that.”
CNN has reached out to Farrow for a comment regarding Allen's statements.
Throughout the years, Allen, who is 85 years old, has consistently denied the allegation and has never faced charges.
The claim came to light in 1992 when a pediatrician treating Dylan Farrow contacted authorities about the alleged molestation.
Subsequently, Allen filed for custody of his three children, including Dylan, with Mia Farrow, leading to extensive media coverage of the case.
During the custody proceedings, investigators concluded that Dylan had not been abused, as reported by The New York Times.
However, Acting Justice Elliott Wilk of New York's State Supreme Court stated that it was unlikely for Allen to be prosecuted based on the evidence, although he found the evidence inconclusive.
As an adult, Dylan Farrow has spoken about the alleged s**ual assault in various interviews, including Vanity Fair in 2013, an open letter published in the New York Times in 2014, and a 2018 televised interview with CBS's Gayle King, which was rebroadcast after Allen's recent interview with “CBS Sunday Morning.”
“I loved my father,” Farrow expressed during the 2018 interview.
“I respected him.
He was my hero.
And that doesn't obviously take away from what he did, but it does make the betrayal and the hurt that much more intense.”
Dylan Farrow is one of several children adopted by Mia Farrow and one of two adopted by Allen during his over decade-long relationship with the actress.
Farrow alleged that her father molested her at her mother's Connecticut home on August 4, 1992.
Allen dismissed the allegation during the interview, questioning its logic.
He asked, “Why would a guy who's 57 years old and has never been accused of anything in my life suddenly drive up in the middle of a contentious custody fight to Mia's country home?”
Allen also addressed his relationship with Soon-Yi Previn, whom Mia Farrow had adopted with musician André Previn.
The end of Allen's relationship with Mia Farrow came after she discovered n^de photos of her then-21-year-old daughter in the filmmaker's apartment when he was 56 years old.
“The last thing in the world that anybody wanted was to hurt anybody's feelings,” Allen explained.
“What we wanted to do was to eventually make it known that we had a relationship.”
The couple has been married for 23 years and has since adopted two daughters who are currently in college.
Allen emphasized, “They don't give two baby girls to someone they think is a pedophile.”
CNN has reached out to Allen's representatives for further comment.
The allegation has gained renewed attention due to the controversy surrounding the publication of Allen's autobiography, “Apropos of Nothing,” and HBO's new docuseries, “Allen v.
Farrow.”
It is important to note that HBO is owned by CNN's parent company.
